Carolina Hurricanes 2022 Trade Deadline Preview

The hockey Gods have shown grace towards the little Carolina Hurricanes in 2022. Sitting atop their division, the boys from N.C. are eager to get post-season play underway. With a playoff berth all but guaranteed, the front office in Raleigh may be looking to tie up some loose ends in search of a cup title run. Although it may seem presumptive to jump the gun and search for more talent, Carolina should be eager to carve a path to the finals.

John Klingberg

With frustrations growing between Klingberg and the front office in Dallas, it’s reasonable to assume the defensemen will be shipped. Though the 29-year-old Swede has experienced a slump in production, what he could provide for Carolina would be unearthly. Most analysts believe the longtime bastion of the Stars blue line may be on the move. Due to Klingberg’s contract, he would likely be a rental if the Hurricanes did decide to pick him up.

Brandon Hagel

This deal would have to present all the suitable options for Chicago to move a player with such potential. Hagel has been on a tear, posting three goals and six points in his last five games. Considering the struggles Chicago has been through recently, they may be looking to get future picks for current players. Hagel presents a scoring threat that would extend this already effervescent offense. Recency bias may play a significant role in the final decision on Hagel’s landing spot in 2022.

Justin Braun

If the Hurricanes were to stick to the deadline script, picking up a salty veteran would be necessary. With only a $1.8 million cap hit, Braun presents a cheap, sturdy blue line option heading into the playoffs. If a deal were to be made, it would likely result in picks or low-level players being sent to Philadelphia. Look for Carolina to prioritize defense in the closing days of the deadline.

Do We Really Need All-Star Games Anymore?

It is safe to say last weekend’s event re-ignited the long-running criticisms of the NBA All-Star Game, which has historically been an event where most will only play at about half of their usual intensity to let their fellow players shine.
