The Buffalo Sabres have not seen the post-season in hockey since 2011, where they lost to the Philadelphia Flyers in the Quarterfinals in seven games. Since then, it has been one disappointing season after another. They finished last season with 76 points, but they started the season surprising everyone, with a record of 17 wins, 7 losses, and 3 overtime losses to finish out November and stayed at over 50% wins until the end of January. Let’s take a look at what they did in the offseason, and if their hope for their club making a playoff appearance will pay off.

When the Sabres were on their crazy 10-game winning streak, Skinner was a Godsend. He was the reason they won many games this season, recording seven game-winning goals for Buffalo. Unfortunately for the team, they faltered and fell off into irrelevance once again. Buffalo got its 15 seconds of fame, but they also figured out how valuable of an asset Skinner is. The new deal is an eight-year deal worth an AAV (average annual value) of $9 million.
The Buffalo Sabres have finally found their new head coach after firing Phil Housley in April as the team announced yesterday that they have hired Ralph Krueger to become the nineteenth head coach in Sabres history. According to Pierre LeBrun, the deal is a reported three-year contract worth somewhere between $11.5 and $12 million, averaging just under four million dollars per year.
After the Florida Panthers fired their head coach, the Buffalo Sabres followed suit as the team announced that head coach Phil Housley yesterday. In Housley’s two years in Buffalo, the Sabres have a combined record of 58-84-22.
