The quarterback and number one receiver share a special bond. That is what happened this year at BYU with Zach Wilson and Dax Milne. Milne burst onto the scene this year, catching 70 passes for 1,188 yards and eight touchdowns. With Wilson declaring for the draft, Milne followed in hopes that his one year of outstanding production would shoot him up draft boards.
Our very own Mason Thompson sits down with 2021 NFL Draft prospect, Devin Pickard who is a running back from Monmouth.
Enjoying a productive season for the Ohio State Buckeyes in his lone season with the team after transferring from the University of Oklahoma, Trey Sermon possesses the makeup and build to be a productive rusher at the NFL level.
The New York Jets own the second overall selection in this month’s NFL Draft following a 2-14 season. They also own the 23rd selection following their trade of Jamaal Adams to the Seattle Seahawks.
The NFL Draft is half immediate impact and half upside and future relevance. A lot of times, general managers will take a chance on a raw player with not a lot of experience. Another linebacker in this fold is Cameron McGrone. McGrone has only played in 19 games and only started 15 during his two years at Michigan.
Protecting Patrick Mahomes was the Kansas City Chiefs’ priority entering 2021 NFL free agency. Andy Reid had seen the franchise take enough bumps when Mahomes was bludgeoned by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers pass rush in Super Bowl LV. Reid and general manager Brett Veach acted once the veteran market opened.
The New York Giants surprised many by going on a huge spending spree in free agency. The team signed big-name players at positions of need, with Leonard Williams, Kenny Golladay, and Adoree’ Jackson all getting multi-year deals. The moves did come at quite a price, as the Giants doled out approximately $121 million in new contract guarantees. The length of these contracts is confounding, considering most other teams were content giving shorter “prove it” deals after the salary cap went backward in 2021.
There are many occasions of players having a strong pre-draft process that sends their draft stock soaring. A great example of that this year is Houston’s edge rusher, Payton Turner. Turner has a bunch of tools at his disposal that make him a very intriguing prospect with a ton of upside in the draft.
The 2021 draft is filled with prospects from small schools. The FCS level is bringing some to the NFL this year, including two from Northern Iowa. The Panthers are sending Spencer Brown to the draft, who many see as the best developmental tackle in the class.
An example of a player performing highly on low-level teams are aplenty this year and perhaps there is no bigger than Pooka Williams. In his two and a half years for the Jayhawks, Williams was only on the winning side of 5 of the 26 games he played in. There are plenty of other traits that make Williams a better prospect that many expect.
Joe Tryon has been a late riser up many draft boards, even into first-round consideration. When a player takes off a whole year after being considered underdeveloped and still garners that consideration, it is hard to avert interest elsewhere. Are the rumors correct that Tryon is a first-rounder?
