Over the past two seasons, the Bruins have seen many top prospects make the jump to the NHL.
The 2019-2020 season will be no different, and one exciting name Bruins fans should watch for is Jack Studnicka. The Bruins selected Studnicka in the second round of the 2017 NHL draft, with the 53rd overall pick. The young center is one of the Bruins top prospects in a system full of talent.
The Ontario native experienced his first NHL training camp last year, but will be looking to earn a permanent role this time around.
Additionally, in sixty games between the OHL and Providence last season, Studnicka thrived. With the Oshawa Senators and Niagara Ice Dogs, the Bruins center had 36 goals and 47 assists both of which were career-highs for a full season. Due to his stellar play, Studnicka finished the season in Providence where he had five points in five games. The Bruins young center was impressive as he continued to score regardless of what level he was at.
Although Studnicka has been an elite goal scorer, his leadership and two-way play have also stood out. His playmaking ability has made him arguably the Bruins best prospect in just two years. Studnicka’s leadership skills have also been on display everywhere he has played. After being traded to Niagara last season, he was named a captain within his first month of being with the team.
Regardless of Studnicka’s talent, he is expected to start this upcoming season in Providence. The 20-year-old still needs a little more time to develop and get used to the pro game. He has shown that he will do whatever it takes to succeed as Studnicka volunteered to play the wing this upcoming season to reach the NHL faster.
Studnicka’s drive has only increased the excitement surrounding his rise to the NHL. This coming season in the AHL coaches will get an opportunity to develop his skills for more than just a few games. They did however like what they saw during Providence’s playoff-run.
In four postseason games last year Studnicka had one goal and two assists. He was able to step into the lineup right away and make his presence felt. He continued to grow and add strength which will help him in the NHL. Studnicka’s introduction to the pros did not stop there as he also traveled with the Bruins during their Stanley cup run.
Although Studnicka is a long shot to make the roster out of camp his NHL debut is not far away. He has excelled at every level so far and gained valuable experience last year. As long as his continues to improve then his debut could come later this season.
As the Bruins try to form their next Stanley Cup core, Studnicka could be a key piece. He has more offensive upside than fellow prospects such as Trent Frederic who will also be battling for a spot. With David Krejci and Patrice Bergeron only getting older Studnicka’s development should be something for Bruins fans to watch closely.
