Bruins Secondary Scoring Coming Alive

After a heartbreaking ending to last season, the Boston Bruins have been one of hockey’s best in the seasons first month.

Through the early going, they have been carried by their first line, but that has changed of late. The Black and Gold have won four straight and scored less than three goals once in that span. While the Bruins top trio has continued to be one of the leagues best other players are starting to step up.

Over Boston’s last three games, they have found the back of the net 15 times. Eight of those goals have come from the Bruins bottom lines as players such as Charlie Coyle have caught fire. What has made their run even more impressive is that the majority of their success was without their second-line center David Krejci.

As the Bruins secondary scoring has come alive, the defensemen have been more involved offensively. Over the Bruins’ last two games, Brandon Carlo, who is not known for his offense, has three points and already tied his goal total from last season. Zdeno Chara has also gotten in on the action, as he has a point in each of the Bruins’ last two games.

Additionally, Charlie Coyle has found his rhythm after a slow start. The Weymouth native, has four points in his last five games, after going scoreless in six straight games. Both of his goals this season have come in that span, which is a welcoming sign for the Bruins. Coyle entered the season with high expectations and was expected to add some scoring to the third line.

While the play of Coyle has been impressive, the Bruins got back a key piece last night in David Krejci, who made an immediate impact. The second center had found the back of the net once and found Coyle in front of the net on the Bruins third goal. With Krejci back, the Bruins offense was hard to stop as they earned their fourth consecutive victory.

For the Bruins’ success to continue their secondary scoring depth can not disappear. While their top line can dominate almost every night having other players contribute makes this team hard to stop. Combine that with the exceptional goaltending play they’ve gotten then this team becomes nearly unstoppable.

There is still a lot of hockey left to be played, but so far the Bruins, are proving that they are again one of the leagues best with redemption on their mind.
