New England Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore was given a 99 overall rating in Madden 21. Gilmore is one of four players in the NFL to have a 99 overall rating, joining Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey, and Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald.
Gilmore has been in the NFL for eight years. His first five years were spent with the Buffalo Bills and his last three with the Patriots. Over Gilmore’s entire career, he has made many amazing plays. With Buffalo, he played in a total of 68 games, all of which he started but two. Gilmore had a total of 14 interceptions over his five years with Buffalo and also defended 62 passes and forced three fumbles. He made a total of 198 solo tackles and 226 combined tackles.
Since Gilmore found his way to New England, he has played in a total of 45 games, all of which he started. Gilmore had a total of 10 interceptions over his three years with New England while defending 49 passes and forcing two fumbles. He made a total of 131 solo tackles and 148 combined tackles and has also scored two touchdowns with the Patriots.
Gilmore’s career interception total of 24 is certainly impressive, and he has added 437 return yards off those picks. His longest return went for 64 yards. Since entering the league, has has defended 111 passes, forced five fumbles, amassed 329 solo tackles, and recorded 374 combined tackles. He added two touchdowns along the way.
Overall, Gilmore has had a terrific career. This past year, he was named the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Year. He has been an extremely important part of the Patriots’ defense.
Gilmore is very deserving of his place in the 99 club. A huge part of the New England defense, Gilmore is extremely consistent and gets the job done when a task needs to be completed.
