With just over three weeks left until the NBA trade deadline, the New York Knicks have done their due diligence on Lakers forward Kyle Kuzma.
Kuzma will be a popular name amongst NBA executives in the next few weeks as teams try to build for a playoff run or set themselves up for the future. Trading Kuzma now doesn’t make much sense from the Lakers’ side of the table as Kuzma is on the books through the end of next season (he will make just over $3 million in 20-21), but many will argue the Lakers are set up to win now, especially considering Anthony Davis is an unrestricted free agent next summer.
So, if you’re the Lakers and LeBron James is telling you to go out and add “x,” is it worth losing Kuzma? That’s a question that we will be following the next few weeks.
So, who will be in on Kuzma? One team to watch is the New York Knicks, league sources tell Prime Time Sports Talk. The Knicks are really high on Kuzma and feel he would fit both on and off the court. While no deal is imminent, the teams have spoken in recent days.
It’s not clear who or what the Lakers would want in return, but New York has draft assets and very friendly salary-related contracts to shed if needed.
Marcus Morris is the most popular name to watch in any trade with New York. Bobby Portis, Taj Gibson, and Wayne Ellington all have team options for next summer, as well.
How much will the Lakers change in order to land another title? It will be very fun to watch.
