The New York Mets are in on Nolan Arenado, and their interest in more than previously reported, a league source tells Prime Time Sports Talk.
The Mets reportedly had preliminary talks on Wednesday with the Rockies regarding Arenado. The Rockies initially had their asking price sky-high but have reportedly lowered it slightly.
The Rockies currently seek a young catching prospect, a few young pitchers, and an MLB-caliber outfielder in addition to a few other prospects. The Mets would be able to offer baseball’s No. 63 overall prospect Francisco Alvarez, who is an 18-year-old catcher, outfielder Brandon Nimmo, right-hander Matthew Allan, southpaw Kevin Smith, and perhaps another prospect.
It surely is a high price to pay but for someone like Nolan Arenado, it may be worth it.
Additionally, the Cardinals are making a big play for Arenado but the Rangers are slowly falling behind. According to a source, “The Mets are a mile behind the Cardinals but the Cardinals are five miles behind a deal.”
