Final Score: 49ers 34, Jaguars 3

Coming into this game, this matchup looked to be a game of the week. The 49ers were good but lost their last three. The Jaguars won their last five and had a home game to prove where they stand in the playoff pecking order. The 49ers went on to put a drubbing to the Jaguars, beating them 34-3 in their home stadium, holding the Jags offense to 221 total yards.

The 49ers came out of the gate looking to prove a point to this Jaguars team. They stuffed the Jaguars offense and turned around and got everything they wanted offensively themselves.

When the Jaguars were on offense, the 49ers’ defense won at every single level impressively. When Trevor Lawrence had time to throw, the secondary took away everything, leading to sacks. Then there were plays where Lawrence had no time to begin with, leading to sacks and the QB running for his life.

Brock Purdy had both Deebo Samuel and Trent Williams back, great weapons for an already dangerous San Francisco offense led by Kyle Shanahan. Purdy went 19-26 for 296 yards and three touchdowns. He got everything he wanted against this team. In totality, the 49ers absolutely dominated Lawrence and company.

Looking Forward

Coming into the game, this was supposed to be a measuring stick for how good the Jaguars were. While they were the underdog, they weren’t supposed to get beaten this badly. The entire team looked like they may have been punching above their weight with the teams on their schedule. The 49ers had a lot riding on this one because if they lose four straight, things begin to get a little tense in the bay.

The Jaguars will need to wash the taste of this loss out of their mouths. They have a large number of tough matchups coming up (Houston, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Baltimore). The issues that were exposed here will need to be urgently addressed. The tape is out there now. If the Jaguars don’t adjust, they may find themselves out of the playoffs due to the difficulty of their upcoming schedule.

The San Francisco 49ers needed this game as much as the Jaguars did, if not more. Coming off a three-game losing streak, losing four would crush the feelings in the building. They came out and made a tremendous statement. The team looked flawless in every phase: offense, defense, and special teams. They should be able to carry this momentum into their next matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
