San Francisco 49ers True or False

OTAs have started to give us some form of light into the next NFL season, and the reports coming out from different teams are certainly interesting. For the 49ers, the injury bug has already begun and all eyes are on the third overall pick Trey Lance. Many questions surround this team, so let’s get into some of them.

Is Trey Lance Performing Up to Par?

True. Obviously, the reports are all pretty objective thus far, but it seems Lance is putting in some nice work at OTAs. Head coach Kyle Shanahan stated that he’s excited with Lance’s play so far, especially how he moves around in the pocket and reads the field. This is some pretty exciting news for 49ers fans. Most thought Lance had a tough time staying in the pocket, but to hear the head coach say he’s excelling at it has definitely got the attention of others around him. Will Lance start week one? Probably not. But, strong performances through OTAs and training camp could make Jimmy Garoppolo‘s leash a lot shorter.

Are the 49ers Going to Stay Healthy This Year?

False. It’s all pretty much speculation, obviously, but things have already started off pretty poorly. Last year after losing practically their entire team to injury, San Francisco has now seen Justin Skule and Tarvarius Moore both go down with pretty rough injuries. It’s honestly shocking how one team can experience so many health-related problems, and it’s been going on for quite a while. It seems to be a little more than just a coincidence and my best guess is that this team sees some more players go down this year.

Can San Francisco Win the NFC West?

True. This one comes with a bit of a contingency. This contingency is the quarterback situation. They’re going to need to figure out who they are going to roll with and do it fast. If they keep playing through a carousel of quarterbacks, the team is not going to benefit, no chemistry will be built, and they’re likely headed for another losing season. If they can figure out their guy, and stay healthy, this team will be a real threat in an already loaded NFC West division.

Is the Wide Receiver Situation Okay?

We bring this up because of the young quarterback situation. If the 49ers are going to play Lance, he’s going to need some weapons. while the 49ers do not have any sort of star receiver, they still have a lot of guys that they use perfectly in their system. The first two that immediately come to mind are Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel. Two receivers who can just do it all in Shanahan’s offense and give immediate support to Lance if he is to start this year.
