In the first installment of Revolution Report Cards, Prime Time Sports Talks Lead Revolution writer Kyle Bray will be giving grades to the New England Revolution’s attackers.
Kei Kamara- B+
Kei Kamara may have one Attacker of the Year, but he still was far from perfect this season. While Kamara scored 12 times for Revolution, his form was incredibly streaky. He went through multiple goal droughts throughout the year, and was almost even traded over the summer due to his lack of goal scoring. He still one Attacker of the Year despite his struggles simply because he was the team’s highest scorer with 12 goals, which certainly did not hurt his case. Overall, Kamara has left a lot to be desired since his arrival in New England, and will be expected to produce more nest season, if he is even on the team.
Juan Agudelo- B
A lot was expected of Juan Agudelo going into this season. Last season he began to look like a developed scorer, leading the team in scoring and his emergence in the USMNT meant that he had a big year ahead of him. He fell flat however, only scoring eight goals in 28 games. Agudelo is a great offensive asset for the Revolution but much like Kamara, he needs to step us his scoring if he wants to cement himself a star striker.
Teal Bunbury- A-
Teal Bunbury had arguably his best season with the Revolution this year, scoring a Revolution career high of seven goals in 28 appearances. Bunbury struggled to get starting minutes early on, but in late July and early August, he hit his stride, scoring four goals in six games, almost forcing then manager Jay Heaps to put him in the lineup. Bunbury earned himself a higher grade than Kamara not because he was better, but because he exceed expectations. Bunbury has gotten criticized often in the past for his lack of offensive production and not much is normally expected from him. His spurt of goal production however was crucial for the Revolution and overall Bunbury had a solid year.
Krisztian Nemeth- B-
It is hard to give Krisztian Nemeth a grade for his performances this year because he joined the team later and only made six appearances. He did manage to get himself a goal and an assist in the six games, and his goal ended up being crucial as it helped the Revolution seal their first away win of the season. His early red card against Sporting Kansas City does leave a large blotch on his record for this year, but overall he looked like he could be a key figure in the Revolution’s attack in the future.
Brian Wright- C
Brian Wright was the Revolution’s first round pick in the draft this year and not much was expected from him, as he would have to compete for playing time with much more experienced players. Wright only played in two games in the MLS this year and scored no goals, so he doesn’t have a large sample size to be judged on.
Femi Hollinger-Janzen- C-
Femi Hollinger-Janzen returned the Revolution via trade with Minnesota United after the Loons took him in the MLS Expansion draft. Much like Wright, Hollinger-Janzen did not have a large sample to choose from, as he went goalless in 13 games, only one of which was a start. Hollinger-Janzen is still young like Wright, so he has time to improve and will hopefully get more action next season.
