For the second week in a row, the New England Revolution have lost to the New York Red Bulls in the dying minutes of the game.
The Revolution dove into this game head first with a couple of chances in the first 10 minutes. Andrew Farrell had a beautiful ball hit towards New York keeper Ryan Meara in the 6th which he caught, covered and distributed. From then on in, the Red Bulls had a multitude of chances involving Bradley Wright-Phillips, Daniel Royer, Felipe and Sacha Kljestan leading to half-time.
Around the 60th minute, Kei Kamara redirected a ball into the stride of Teal Bunbury heading into the 18, Teal tried to slide a low corner shot past Meara and just slightly missed the left post. The rest of the game was a battle, tempers flaring back and forth from both teams.At one point, the Revolution coach Jay Heaps was told by the referee to keep his comments to himself after clearly showing dissent towards referee Gonzalez’s calling of the game.
Benjamin Angoua had several tackles throughout the game. In the 75th minute, he made a tackle on Daniel Royer and a foul was called. Angoua ended up getting in the referee and Royer’s face. The culmination of these actions ended up getting Angoua a red card and ejected from the game. The Sacha Kljestan free kick following this altercation was one of the Red Bulls best chances on goal leading up to the end of the game. The kick was dipping under the bar and had to be pushed by Brad Knighton into the crossbar to keep it out.
The Red Bulls won this game 1-0 in the 87th minute on a last ditch effort by Bradley Wright-Phillips around Antonio Delemea and to the right of Brad Knighton. The 10 man Revolution team was unable to bring themselves back even before the end of the game.
The Revolution will be back on the field July 22 against the LA Galaxy at home.
