In a rather shocking roster move on Wednesday, the Tennessee Titans released rookie backup quarterback Cole McDonald and signed veteran Trevor Siemian. McDonald was the team’s seventh-round selection in the 2020 NFL Draft out of Hawaii. Many projected McDonald to compete with Logan Woodside for the backup job behind starter Ryan Tannehill. Many also predicted McDonald would win that job.
Instead, the Titans agreed to terms on a one year deal with Siemian, the former starting quarterback for the Denver Broncos and New York Jets.
During his time in Denver, Siemian started 24 games, threw for 5,686 yards, 30 touchdowns, and 24 interceptions.
The competition will be between Siemian and Woodside to back up the reigning NFL Comeback Player of the Year.
