Unfortunate news has surfaced for the team and fans alike as CBS Boston reported, Boston Red Sox pitcher Steven Wright was arrested for assault charges Friday night at his home.
A statement was released by the Wright family and his attorney that night stating that no physical harm was inflicted by Wright towards his wife.
“On Friday night, Steven (Wright) was arrested at our home following a verbal argument, and the police charged him with domestic assault. Although he said things he deeply regrets, he did not raise his hand at anyone during the incident, and the situation was purely emotional. We are working together as a family to make our relationships stronger, and we ask that you respect our privacy as we do so.”
Senior director of media relations Kevin Gregg has released a statement regarding Wright reassuring fans and the league that they consider it a big issue and are continuing to monitor the situation.
“We are aware of the incident involving Steven (Wright). This is certainly a matter that the Red Sox take very seriously,” Gregg stated. “It is my understanding that both local police and Major League Baseball are looking into this and for that reason, the club won’t have any further comment at this time.”
Wright was reportedly released the following morning and the investigation is indeed ongoing.
