Report: Patriots in Talks to Bring Back Former All-Pro

The New England Patriot are reportedly looking to make a midseason splash by bringing back their former linebacker Jamie Collins via a trade from the Cleveland Browns.

According to an article done by Athletic Writer Jeff Howe, the Patriots have had discussions about possibly trading for their top pick of the 2013 NFL Draft.

They’ve had internal discussions about trading for linebacker Jamie Collins, according to a source. The Pats traded Collins to the Browns on Halloween in 2016 for a third-round draft pick. Collins, a 2013 second-rounder, signed a four-year, $50 million deal with the Browns in January 2017. Whether or not the Patriots do pursue Collins, the internal discussions are interesting nonetheless considering the circumstances that spurred his trade two years ago.

Collins, 29, was a second team All-Pro twice in his career with the Patriots in 2014 and 2015.

The Patriots traded him on Halloween of 2016 for a third round draft selection to the Cleveland Browns.

A reunion with his former team would be beneficial to both sides as the New England defense has had trouble rushing the passer for an extended period of time while the Southern Mississippi alum could recapture his All-Pro magic.

This wouldn’t be the first time the Patriots reunited with a former player on their roster via trade as the team traded a fourth round draft selection for wide receiver Deion Branch in 2010.
