Report: Patriots Find Likely Replacement for Matt Patricia

A day after their loss in Super Bowl LII, the New England Patriots are going about business as usual as they have reportedly found the successor to defensive coordinator Matt Patricia.

According to the writer Zach Barnett of Football Scoop, the Patriots will likely hire former college and NFL head coach Greg Schiano as their new defensive coordinator.

Schiano is a longtime friend to Patriots head coach Bill Belichick and has often vouched for the former Rutgers Scarlet Knight coach even after the Tennessee campus protested Schiano not become their head coach due to reasons outside football.

“He’s one of the very best coaches I think in our profession. I have a tremendous amount of respect for Greg and the way he runs his program and the job that he does,” Belichick said to reporters about Schiano.

Further reports have come out with Schiano stating that he is unsure whether he will leave his current job at Ohio State which still leaves the door open to promote linebackers coach Brian Flores to defensive coordinator. Although according to FS1’s Bruce Feldman, if the Patriots do decide to go with Flores, Schiano may still join the staff in another role.
