The New England Patriots are looking to secure their secondary depth for the long-term.

Per Ian Rapoport, the Super Bowl champions and cornerback Jonathan Jones are close to agreeing to terms on a contract extension that will more than likely be a three-year deal.

Jones, 25, signed with the Patriots as an undrafted free agent out of Auburn University where he also won an SEC Title.

The team had previously signed him to a second-round restricted free agent tender in March before agreeing to terms on a one-year extension in April.

The cornerback is known for his blistering speed which the team has utilized in the slot. He most notably contributed in the blanketing of Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill in last year’s AFC Championship game.

Update: The Patriots and Jones agreed to a three-year extension worth $21 million with a maximum value of $25 million and $13 million guaranteed.
