Report: Patriots Acquire Isaiah Ford From Dolphins

Leave it to Bill Belichick to make the first trade of the day. The New England Patriots reached an agreement with the Miami Dolphins to acquire wide receiver Isaiah Ford in exchange for a seventh-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Ford, 24, is a former seventh-round pick himself. In the middle of his third NFL season, Ford posted 18 catches for 184 yards over seven games in Miami. The Virginia Tech product has yet to record a receiving touchdown in his career. However, there’s reason to believe that could change now that he joins a depleted New England receiving core.

Julian Edelman (knee) and N’Keal Harry (concussion) are sidelined for the time being. That leaves Damiere Byrd, Jakobi Meyers, and Gunner Olszewski as New England’s top three receivers. Ford provides upside as a top receiving threat for the Patriots once he learns the offense and is activated.

Ford provides promising upside to the Patriots, who surely hope to keep him under contract long-term as a part of their offense, which is being slowly re-constructed after the departure of Tom Brady.
