Report: Mets’ Syndergaard to Have Elbow Surgery

The injury bug has struck the Mets even on a hiatus, as they’ve lost one of their starting pitchers for a long time.

Yes, you read that correctly.

Mets right-handed flamethrower, Noah Syndergaard, will need Tommy John Surgery and will be out until late-2021 at the earliest. This is a tough break for a Mets team looking to rebound after a disappointing, albeit exciting late, 2019 campaign.

Syndergaard, 27, has gone 47-30 in his career with a 3.31 ERA in 716 innings. He’s also notched 775 strikeouts to just 166 walks in that span as well. He may never pitch again for the Mets as he will be in his contract year in 2021, and could very well miss that as well.

The Mets are lucky they retained Steven Matz, as well as signing both Rick Porcello and Michael Wacha this past offseason.
