Report: Martinez Opts Into Contract for 2020

The moment everyone in Red Sox Nation has been waiting for since the World Series ended: J.D. Martinez has decided to not opt-out of his contract.

He will be returning for the 2020 season, despite many doubts surrounding the situation.

The Red Sox struggled in 2019 as a whole, but Martinez stood out amongst the best of the best once again, slashing .304/.383/.557 with a 140 OPS+ in a “down” season that saw him playing through a back injury.

There are still questions about the future of Mookie Betts. But for now, the Red Sox can take solace in the fact have retained their slugger for at least one more season.
