With just a few hours before the deadline for the qualifying offer, it appears that Marcus Stroman will be returning to the New York Mets after accepting his qualifying offer. The deal is a one-year $18.9 million deal and he will not be able to be extended another offer after the 2021 season.

Stroman’s market was going to be uncertain as he last pitched in 2019 when he went 4-2 with a 3.71 ERA through 59 innings. Stroman became a fan favorite fairly quickly after coming over from Toronto in a blockbuster deal. The Mets sent lefthanded prospect Anthony Kay who made an immediate impact for the Blue Jays, as well as MLB Top 100 prospect Simeon Woods-Ricardson in exchange for the Long Island native.

Stroman will join Jacob deGrom and David Peterson as locks for the Mes rotation. Another nice piece of news for Metsland is that new president Sandy Alderson said on the radio that free agent starter Trevor Bauer is a great fit for New York. The Mets have already seen the impact that new owner Steve Cohen has made and will likely contribute to see throughout the offseason.
