The Tennessee Titans have informed cornerback, Malcolm Butler, that he is going to be released. The star cornerback started every game last season for the Titans, recording 100 tackles and four interceptions.

Butler was heading into the fourth year of a five-year, 61.25 million dollar deal. The move from the Titans will save them $10.2 million in cap space.

As it stands, the Titans’ primary cornerbacks next season would be Adoree Jackson and Kristian Fulton. Desmond King is hitting free agency so the Titans could be interested in re-signing him in order to add depth or look towards the draft or free-agency to add another cornerback. With newly added cap room cleared up by the move, Tennessee would have enough to make a push to re-sign free-agent receiver Corey Davis in the next week.

Butler was an excellent cornerback for the Titans the past season and will be a highly coveted free agent during in free agency. Two realistic landing spots for the former pro-bowl cornerback would be with the San Francisco 49ers or the Denver Broncos. Both sides are in desperate need of secondary help and Butler would be an excellent fit for either team.
