Vaccaro was heading into the final season of a four-year deal and was expected to create a cap hit of 6.9 million next season. By releasing him, the Titans save 3.9 million.
The Titans have cleared up cap space in recent days by cutting parts of their secondary. Yesterday, Malcolm Butler was released in a move that saved the Titans 10.2 million. The move creates a positional need at strong safety for the Titans. Currently, Kevin Byard is the starting free safety while the strong safety position will be up for grabs next season.
Vaccaro will be a sought-after free agent for teams that need an upgrade at strong safety. A few teams that could be interested would be the Houston Texans, San Francisco 49ers (if Jaquiski Tartt leaves in free agency), and the Cleveland Browns as all teams need help with their secondary.
