Report: HEAT Interested in Acquiring Danilo Gallinari

Jacari McRae | February 3rd, 2020

We’ve only a few days away from the NBA trade deadline. Typically, teams will look for deals that can significantly improve their chances in their conference. Last year, the Toronto Raptors acquired Marc Gasol, a move that helped them win last year’s championship. The Miami Heat are reportedly looking to do the same this week.

ESPN’s Zach Lowe reports the Heat are interested in Oklahoma City‘s Danilo Gallinari.

Both Miami and Denver will look other places for help, too; the Heat are among teams who have expressed interest in Danilo Gallinari, for instance, sources say.

Gallinari was acquired by the Thunder this past summer as part of the Paul George trade. He’s currently on an expiring deal, which doesn’t affect Miami’s 2021 plans. More importantly, he’s averaging 19.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, while also shooting 41 percent from beyond the arc. He can play both forward spots and is not a terrible defender.

With the Thunder looking to focus on the future, it would not be surprising if they find a deal for Gallinari. However, it may take a first-round pick, which Miami currently lacks in a trade. Miami is also working against the hard cap, which makes a deal even more difficult unless a third team is involved. Regardless, the Heat are looking for ways to improve their chances this season without affecting their 2021 plans.
