Report: HBO Targeting Rams, Chargers for Groundbreaking Season of “Hard Knocks”

HBO’s Hard Knocks is always a fan-favorite because it goes deep into the unseen aspects of training camp and exposes the hardships, whether they be disagreements between coaches and players, a failed workout or physical, a tough practice, or even a trade or release.

Last season, Hard Knocks focused on the Oakland Raiders in their final season in California. During the season, young prospects emerged as big playmakers, various meetings and roster moves were exposed, and Antonio Brown was the spotlight of the show just days before his release.

In 2020, the show will attempt to do something it has never done before. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN.com, HBO is expected to pursue coverage of both the Rams and Chargers.

The two teams, both from Los Angeles, are moving into the same venue this year, meaning the Rams and Chargers will be sharing SoFi stadium and their appearance in the HBO spotlight.

This is the first time that HBO and NFL Films will pursue multiple teams for their show. In years past, they have picked just one team, but they remain hopeful that they can get both L.A. teams to volunteer for a “supersized” series this summer, as one source told Schefter.

The announcement on which team would be featured on Hard Knocks had been scheduled for last week’s NFL annual meetings, but those gatherings were canceled due to COVID-19.

Nevertheless, HBO remains optimistic that training camp and their show will go on as scheduled with a groundbreaking season in Los Angeles.
