The Detroit Lions are in agreement with star defensive end Trey Flowers on a five-year contract, according to a report from ESPN insider Adam Schefter.

Schefter also reported the deal will pay Flowers more than $16 million annually, meaning the final value will exceed $80 million.

Flowers, who spent the first four years of his career with the New Englan Patriots, was expected to earn $15.7 million in 2019 after being projected to sign a five-year, $78.9 million deal this offseason.

Flowers started all 15 of the games he played in last season, forcing three fumbles while making 57 tackles and seven-and-a-half sacks.

Flowers is the third New England Patriot to join the Lions organization today, following in the footsteps of Danny Amendola and Justin Coleman. That trio joins former Patriots defensive coordinator Matt Patricia and scout Dan Quinn in Detroit; those two men are now the Lions’ head coach and general manager, respectively.

After a poor 2018 season, things appear to be trending up for the Lions. It’s only Day One of the legal tampering period, and the team has already made three crucial signings; perhaps the best is yet to come for the Lions.

Detroit Lions Week 9 Recap- Gruden, Carr Raid Lions

The Lions traveled to Oakland in their last season at the Colosseum. The plan was to use an Air-Raid offense (like Arizona’s) to sink the Raiders’ ship in the Black Hole for one last time.
