After a potential holdout and lots of news during training camp, the drama surrounding the Minnesota Vikings and Dalvin Cook has dissipated. The 25-year-old out of Florida State has signed a five-year extension that ties him to the Vikings for the next six seasons, through 2025.
Under his current contract, Cook now will earn $12.5 million per season, with a total value of $62.5 million over the next six seasons.
Since being drafted in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft, Cook has played in 29 games, rushing for 2,104 yards, scoring 17 touchdowns, and averaging 4.6 yards per carry. While he is coming off a career season, Cook has yet to play a full 16 game season, which has earned him the “injury prone” label. However, despite the injury concerns, the Vikings felt good about looking up their star running back long term.
The Vikings now will be confident knowing that they have a core of Kyle Rudolph, Kirk Cousins, and Cook for the foreseeable future.
Look for Cook to improve his game now that he has a long term deal.
