After much speculation, the Dallas Cowboys have informed head coach Jason Garrett that he will be relieved of his duties, effective on Monday.
It’s come much later than many who thought this move was inevitable. Everyone seemed to expect that this decision would’ve come on “Black Monday,” the Monday after Week 17 when many coaches lose their jobs.
The timing is quite suspicious, however. As the Eagles and Seahawks went to halftime, owner Jerry Jones decided the time was quite literally right now to fire their coach of nine seasons. That alone is very un-Jerry Jones-like. He always makes a huge spectacle out of anything and everything… yet this time things were different.
Could that mean Jones was waiting for the “dream” head coach’s season to come to an end? Someone like Sean Payton?
On the flip side, could Jason Garrett end up with one of the teams that have an opening at head coach? A team like Cleveland, perhaps. Or maybe he’ll step back and wait for a better opportunity, one he wants a lot.
Whoever the next guy is in Dallas, he’s got his work cut out for him, as expectations are always sky-high from their fans.

Great tease with Sean Payton. While I thought you were grasping at straws. But this morning I saw a report that confirmed it. I am officially a fan of yours. A lot of what I read is rubbish, and crazy speculation, even on this site. You have integrity and obviously know what you’re talking about and I have nothing but respect for you. You can let your boss know that at least for me you are my favorite writer here
