As reported yesterday, the list of teams in the final stages of signing free-agent linebacker Jadeveon Clowney was down to three: the Seattle Seahawks, New York Jets, and Tennessee Titans.
Here we are a day later and that list is now down to two. According to a report on ESPN Radio’s “Marty and McGee,” the star linebacker will not be re-signing in Seattle, leaving the Jets and the Titans as the final two options.
It is unclear why the Seahawks would be no longer on the table, as there have been conflicting reports on either money or length, but neither side was willing to budge.
Which is even better news for the Jets, the Titans, and their respective fanbases. If it comes down to money, the Titans have the edge after freeing up nearly $10 million in cap space when they traded Jurrell Casey earlier this week.
The Jets, while their pockets aren’t as deep as the Titans, play in New York, which in itself is an entirely different beast.
If it comes down to a contender, who better than the team that upset both the Patriots and the Ravens in the playoffs?
One thing is for sure, whoever wins these sweepstakes will immediately have an improved defense.
Stay tuned for more updates.
