Report: Chicago Teams Swing Deal for Reliever

Ryan Tepera

The Chicago Cubs have been long rumored to sell off their pieces and blow up their roster with many impending free agents. They continued that effort with the trade of Ryan Tepera to their crosstown rival, the Chicago White Sox.

The Cubs will acquire White Sox No. 23 prospect Bailey Horn, a left-handed starter drafted in the fifth round of the 2020 draft. Horn, 23, has a 5.63 ERA through 38.1 innings (10 starts) with 45 strikeouts and 18 walks at Single-A and High-A this season.

The White Sox are one of the surest teams in MLB looking to run away with the lackluster AL Central. They have filled two needs today with the acquisition of Cesar Hernandez and Tepera. The latter will likely be in the setup role. He owns a 2.91 ERA and 0.78 WHIP while striking out 50 batters through 43.1 innings.

Now, the Cubs will continue to search for suitors for other key players. These include Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo, Javier Baez, Zach Davies, Craig Kimbrel, and Kyle Hendricks.
