The Boston Bruins acquired forward Tommy Wingels from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for a conditional fifth-round pick in the 2019 NHL draft.

Wingels will be a free agent after the end of the season and has been playing in the NHL since 2010, spending most of his time in San Jose before moving to Ottawa and then Chicago. Wingels has 12 points in 57 games with the Blackhawks this season.
The Illinois native is a physical forward who can play as either a center or a right wing. On the Blackhawks, Wingels played with the first line on the right wing with Johnathan Toews and Brandon Saad.
While Wingels is not a prolific goal scorer, his addition gives the Bruins more options going forward in case of injury. Wingels will also provide valuable depth for the Bruins heading into the postseason. In 54 career playoff games, Wingels has eight points.
Since the Bruins only gave up a fifth-round pick for Wingels and his contract expires this offseason, this a low-risk move for Boston.
Wingels is the third player the Bruins added by trade prior to the deadline this month, having acquired Rick Nash on Sunday and Nick Holden last week.
