Report: Bengals Inform Joe Burrow He’ll be No. 1 Pick

On Wednesday, Cincinnati local newscaster, Jeremy Rauch, reported that the Cincinnati Bengals informed Joe Burrow he’ll be their selection at No. 1.

Does a source who gave an anonymous tip to a news station mean that Burrow to Cincinnati is this 100 percent certain? Not necessarily.

Teams very often put out fake reports as a smokescreen so others around the league are not able to see what the actual pick may be. For the Bengals, it does not make so much sense for fake reports just because they are in full command of that No. 1 pick. But in any case, until a representative from the Cincinnati Bengals or Joe Burrow confirms this, it might not be wise to get over-excited.

After seeing reports ranging from Joe Burrow’s supposed lack of interest in playing for the Bengals, to the Bengals maybe being interested in Herbert instead, to Miami trading all of their first-round picks in exchange for the No. 1 overall selection, going into the draft with a blank slate might be wise for fans all over.

While it seems all but inevitable the Bengals select Burrow at No. 1 Thursday night, it’s definitely smart to avoid jumping on every report from an anonymous source. Look for confirmation from one of the major insiders (Adam Schefter, Ian Rapoport, etc.) before jumping to a conclusion on a story.

Even though this report has raised the hopes of a lot of Bengals fans out there, we now have to play the waiting game to see if any of this is actually correct.
