Red Sox to Re-Sign Postseason Hero

Mookie Betts wasn’t the only Red Sox MVP rewarded for their efforts this weekend as World Series MVP Steve Pearce reportedly signed a one-year deal with the Red Sox worth $6.25 million.

It was only a matter of time before the Red Sox made some noise this off-season and while many were hoping Nathan Eovaldi would be the first to be on the train back to Fenway Park for 2019, Pearce was a close second.

Lost in his October performance was the fact that he, at times, was one of the most feared hitters in a potent Red Sox offense—especially when the boys from the Bronx came to town.

Despite costing Dave Dombrowski next to nothing to come south of the Canadian border to play for his childhood team, Pearce hit .279 with a .901 OPS, as well as seven home runs in his 50 games in Boston. But what really put the icing on the cake was his exclamation mark he put on the World Series. The 35-year-old went 4-12 with three home runs and eight runs batted in for the series, and it was enough to garner World Series MVP honors.

Pearce became a Cinderella Story of sorts in 2018, and Dave Dombrowski couldn’t wait to retain him. Expect this to start a series of moves the Red Sox make in the coming weeks—and it should be worthwhile to keep your tabs on Joe Kelly and Eovaldi moving forward.
