Red Sox: Injury Updates on Price and Pedroia

Since late July, the Boston Red Sox have been operating minus two key players: David Price and Dustin Pedroia. Both players have been nursing injuries significant enough to land them on the disabled list.

Price, a left-handed pitcher for the Red Sox, has officially been on the 10-day disabled list since July 28 due to elbow inflammation. Price’s rehabilitation thus far has been fairly inconsistent, with waves of headway and setbacks. Most recent reports reflect a halt in Price’s progress, stating the southpaw has not thrown since Wednesday, Aug. 16 because of stiffness in his throwing arm.

Price is continuing to rest his arm and receiving treatment from team medical staff. In the meantime, Sox manager John Farrell said he remains hopeful, yet practical about whether or not Red Sox fans will see Price back on the mound in 2017.

“I think we’re also realistic here too that he’s got to build up to an aggressive long toss situation, not in terms of overall distance, but number of throws with some aggression and build-back to the mound,” Farrell said.

Pedroia, who has been on the 10-day disabled list since Aug. 1 due to a left knee injury, has been making progress over the course of the past week, according to Farrell. Pedroia had surgery on his knee during the offseason, but the current inflammation is most likely due to overuse and volume of play, Farrell said.

Luckily for Red Sox Nation, Pedroia has been steadily improving and will hopefully be ready to return in coming weeks.

“He’s improving,” Farrell said. “The strength and conditioning that he’s going through, along with the treatment, there’s been some really good strides made over this past week.”

Boston fans are eagerly awaiting each of these player’s return to the game. While there is no definite timeline for either return, both Price and Pedroia are getting the proper rest and rehabilitation necessary for recovery.
