Red Sox Designate Veteran Righty for Assignment, Angels Claim Him

The Boston Red Sox announced Thursday they have designated right-handed pitcher Noe Ramirez for assignment and activated Roenis Elias from the 60-day disabled list.

Elias, who has been battling an oblique injury, was sent straight to Triple-A Pawtucket.

This past Thursday marked the end of the stint and the day that a decision had to be made.

Ramirez has been apart of the Red Sox organization ever since he was drafted in the fourth round of the 2011 MLB Draft.

Since then, he’s only had three solid seasons in the minors (Double-A and Triple-A), but flopped every time he was called up to “The Show.”

Ramirez made his debut back in 2015, but was quickly optioned back to Triple-A after three poor relief performances, in which he allowed a total of nine runs.

In his two appearances in the 2017 season, he surrendered three hits, one walk and two earned runs.

Those two runs were from separate home runs.

In his 33 games for the Pawsox this year, he tossed 48.2 innings and allowed 19 earned runs, turning his ERA to 3.51, which is not ideal for a middle reliever.

Ramirez was claimed by the Los Angeles Angels Friday afternoon and optioned him to Triple-A Salt Lake.
