Red Sox Ace Will Make History Tuesday

Chris Sale – he’s been everything as advertised for the Boston Red Sox, and on Tuesday, he’ll join the All-Star Game record books.

The southpaw will become the first pitcher to start back-to-back Midsummer Classics for two different teams.

Last season Sale got the nod as a member of the Chicago White Sox and tossed an inning, allowed one hit and one run (a two-out home run to the Chicago Cubs’ Kris Bryant), while striking out one.

This will be the 28-year-old’s sixth trip to the All-Star Game as a member of the American League.

With the start, Sale becomes the first Red Sox since Derek Lowe in 2002 to open the game on the mound.

Sale sits at 11-4 with a 2.75 ERA and 178 strikeouts over 127.7 innings at the break.

He will be opposed by Washington Nationals right-hander Max Scherzer (10-5, 2.10 ERA, 173 SO, 128.1 IP).

The All-Star Game gets underway tomorrow at 8 p.m. at Marlins’ Park.
