Reacting to the Heat’s Loss to the Clippers

Tyler Herro

Make that five straight losses for the Miami Heat. After trailing by as many as 18 points, the Heat was able to cut the lead down to single digits in the fourth period. However, the Los Angeles Clippers ended up closing the deal in the end. Miami was without key players but so were the Clippers. The loss puts Miami to 6-12 for the season.

Here are my three takeaways from Thursday’s loss against the Clippers.

Turd quarter

The good old “Turd Quarter” returned. In the third period, the Clippers were hitting their three-pointers at a high clip. And Miami was stagnant on the offensive end. This is where the team misses Goran Dragic, who’s normally aggressive during this time. Additionally, the team was missing its top three perimeter defenders.

Miami was outscored 40-19 in the third quarter.

Herro returns

Tyler Herro returned after missing the last several games. He started off slow as expected. But as the game progressed, he got better. He kept getting to the rim and hit on a couple of mid-range jumpers. All in all, it was good to see Herro back. Miami clearly missed having a guy that can attack the defense off the pick and roll.

Herro ended the night with 19 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists.

Bam struggles

The Heat’s best player didn’t have a good night. There were times where Bam Adebayo wasn’t looking to score. He was looking more for the dribble handoffs than at the basket. And whenever he shot the ball, he was rushing it. He clearly wasn’t as confident as he has been. On a night against a shorthanded team, the Heat needed more from Bam.

Bam finished the night with 16 points, 13 rebounds, and seven assists.

Next up: The Sacramento Kings on Saturday. The game tips off at 8 pm eastern.
