INDIANAPOLIS – Let’s face it, the “Brady Watch” has been an exhausting process.
One minute, the legendary quarterback has reportedly bought property in Greenwich, CT, about a 1-hour drive from MetLife Stadium, the next, the Tennessee Titans are supposedly at the top of his list of destinations.
One team that has consistently been rumored to have interest in Brady’s services? The Las Vegas Raiders. In fact, Larry Fitzgerald Sr. of the Minnesota Spokesman-Recorder actually reported that the organization was prepared to offer Brady $60 million over a span of two years back on Feb. 14.
The NFL Combine is generally the time period where news regarding free agency begins to ramp up. Speaking at a press conference Tuesday morning in Indianapolis, Raiders General Manager Mike Mayock praised the play of the team’s current quarterback, Derek Carr.
However, he did anything but pour water on the scorching hot rumors regarding Brady.
“Derek Carr played at a high level,” said Mayock. “I’m very happy with Derek Carr. What I’ve told everybody I’ve been in touch with since the day I took this job, is we’re going to evaluate every position, every year, and if we can get better, we will. And our guys get tired of me saying that, but that’s really what I told Marc Davis before I took the job, and that’s my mantra.”
Should fans of the New England Patriots be worried? Most thought things were settled when Brady ended his now-famous Hulu commercial with the line: “Me? I’m not going anywhere.”
Yet, with each passing day, the talks of a potential departure cease to fade.
If the Raiders were to move on from Carr, you’d have to think they’d have a plan in place. And with the Patriots reportedly talking to other quarterback prospects at the Combine, most notably Jake Fromm from Georgia, it seems like they’re attempting to have a backup plan in place.
Will the era end when free agency begins March 18? That remains to be seen.
