Potential Candidates to Fill Power Gap

With the loss of David Ortiz in 2016, the Red Sox have had a huge power gap in their lineup, and are yet to find a suitable replacement this offseason.

There is a possibility, however, that the Red Sox could land J.D Martinez or Jose Abreu to bring some power to the lineup. Either one could potentially fill the void left by Ortiz, although they would have rather large shoes to fill.

Because of players like Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge, these two heavy hitters have been overlooked, but it would all depend on how much Boston is willing to pay for Martinez or Abreu.

Last season, there were 74 players that had over 25 home-runs which is one more than Mookie Betts had in 2017. There are many power options available, the only thing needed is the incentive from the Red Sox to go out and get one of them.

Even if the Red Sox do not get Martinez or Abreu, Eric Hosmer could also be a huge potential signing, as he is one of the most versatile players in the league, according to two National League talent evaluators. He is a machine at first base and can hit the ball as well.

Overall, there several candidates that could contribute tremendously to the Red Sox organization, but moves need to be made as time is running out.
