Patriots Trade for Browns Defensive Tackle

The Cleveland Browns keep on cleaning house as they have trade their 2015 first round selection defensive tackle to the New England Patriots for a conditional draft selection.

The Patriots will get the starting defensive tackle and a 2018 fifth-round draft selection while the Browns will get a third-round 2019 selection.

NFL insider Ian Rapoport was one of the reporters to break the story.

Shelton (24), was picked at the No.12 spot in that draft out of Washington and was immediately plugged into the starting role for the Browns playing in all 16 games his rookie season.

As one of the lone bright spots in Cleveland, the Auburn alum was named to Pro Football Focus’ midseason All-Pro team in 2016. In three seasons, Shelton has 129 total tackles with 1.5 sacks as a man who’s strength is the run defense. Shelton is not the kind of player who will rush the passer consistently, but he will do very well as a player who will replace Vince Wilfork and Alan Branch.
