The Carolina Panthers will take on the New Orleans Saints in Week 3 of the NFL season. Both teams are dealing with injury problems and have made roster moves to prepare for this divisional contest.

What do these moves and injuries mean for the Panthers and Saints? How will they impact the upcoming matchup?

Panthers Injuries and Roster Moves

Heading into Week 3 from an injury perspective, Christian McCaffrey, Donte Jackson, and Frankie Luvu were among the key players who missed practice time this week. Notably, McCaffery was simply dealing with soreness and has been cleared to play against New Orleans.

The Panthers have made roster moves in light of players not practicing or being placed on injured reserve. Notably, the team signed running back Raheem Blackshear from the Buffalo Bills’ practice squad after a solid preseason. Linebacker Arron Mosby was also elevated to the active roster while defensive tackle Frank Herron joined the practice squad.

Saints Injuries and Roster Moves

The Saints are also dealing with injuries early in the season. Jameis Winston, Alvin Kamara, and Tre’Quan Smith are among the list of players who appeared on the injury report. If Winston and Kamara, both of whom are questionable, can’t play, Andy Dalton and Mark Ingram would be in line to start.

Matchup Implications

In Week 2, the Saints lost to the Buccaneers as Winston tossed three interceptions. Meanwhile, Carolina is coming off a loss to the New York Giants in an ugly game. If the Panthers lose, head coach Matt Rhule’s seat will grow immensely hotter. All the while, a win for the Saint would set them on the right path to prosperity.

Winston will likely play for the Saints while Baker Mayfield makes his third start with the Panthers. This is the definition of a must-win game for both teams.
