Packers In-Depth Look: The Woes of the Green Bay Packers

The Green Bay Packers took on the New York Jets at Lambeau field. Unfortunately, the Packers would go on to lose against the Jets, the final score being 27-10. Watching this game, questions arise about what the biggest problems for the Green Bay Packers are. But, more importantly, what needs to happen for the Green Bay Packers?

Be sure to check out all of our NFL coverage.

What Are the Biggest Problems for the Green Bay Packers?

Green Bay’s Biggest problem is that “There are multiple problems, and they’re all coming together to create a really bad football team, and make no mistake, that’s what the Green Bay Packers are in Week 6. A very bad football team.” According to a quote from Packers YouTuber and the creator of Packast Tom Grossi

The Minnesota Vikings

“The issue is the Vikings might get to the point where they are so far ahead we might not be able to catch them.” Grossi also noted that this concern is more “way down the line”. So, for example, if in Week 11, the Vikings are 8-2, with their bye week being in Week 7. If the Packers go 6-5, there is a chance that Green Bay can not catch up to the Vikings’ record; therefore, the Vikings would be winning the National Football Conference North.

The Offensive Side of the Ball

On offense, most of the wide receivers aside from Romeo Doubs and Amari Rodgers were out with injuries in the Jets game. There were ball catchers that had crucial catches—for example, Robert Tonyan. There are more issues for the Packers than injuries. Another problem is Green Bay is not running the ball. Rodgers was forced to throw 41 times.

They have two great running backs, Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon, and are not utilizing them at all. The offensive line has also been experiencing problems, Elgton Jenkins has been playing right tackle for the past few games, but it has not worked out. A solution to this problem would be moving Jenkins back to interior linemen, then Yoshuah Nijman over at right tackle.

The Quarterback Play of Aaron Rodgers

Aaron Rodgers has missed a lot of throws. He has not been looking great, but then he could have amazing throws like Robert Tonyan, which was very Jared Cook,” Grossi stated. So it seems like the main problem for Rodgers is the inconsistency with his throws. He went 26-of-41 in the game against the Jets, completing 63% of his throws, which is not very good for him.

Packers Defensive Issues

The Packers’ defense is getting gassed during these last few games. In the Jets game alone, they allowed 24 points to be scored on them in the second half. If you want to compete for a Lombardi, you cannot have that happening. As for Green Bay’s pass rusher, it has “been non-existent,” Grossi expressed. It is worth noting Rashaun Gary has been dealing with an injury even though he has been playing well.

Green Bay Coaching Woes

Coaching this season for the Packers has been lackluster. Matt Lafleur has not been calling run plays, and the Packers have one of, if not the best running-back duo in the league. So whether it is Lafleur or Rodgers calling the plays, their scheme needs to change to add more of the run game.

What Needs to Happen for Green Bay?

What needs to happen for Green Bay is they need to figure it out. So first, they will hopefully play a “get-right game” against the Washington Commanders. Then they travel to Buffalo to take on the Buffalo Bills on Sunday Night Football. So if they cannot figure it out against the Commanders, the Bills will demolish Green Bay.
