One Win Away: Tennessee Titans Meet Kansas City Chiefs in AFC Championship

The Tennessee Titans travel to Kansas City after upsetting the AFC’s No. 1 seed, the Baltimore Ravens, on Saturday. That win came just one week after they traveled to Foxboro and upset the Patriots.

Meanwhile, the Chiefs come in after defeating the Houston Texans in a game in which they trailed 24-0 in the first quarter.

In Baltimore, Derrick Henry tallied 195 yards rushing, and although he didn’t score a touchdown on the ground, he did throw a touchdown pass to Corey Davis on a trick play. He became the first player in NFL history with three consecutive games of 180 yards on the ground. He had 182 yards rushing against the Patriots and 216 yards in the Titans’ season finale as he claimed the NFL rushing title.

The Titans’ defense sacked Lamar Jackson four times, intercepted him twice, and stopped him twice on fourth down.

Titans’ keys to the game

  • Business as usual
The Henry formula has been successful game after game. As long as it continues to be successful, keep running Henry at the Chiefs until they prove they can stop him more than once or twice.
  • More of the same from defense
After beating the greatest quarterback of all-time, Tom Brady, they shut down the surefire MVP in Lamar Jackson. So, the fact that their next opponent is the reigning MVP in Patrick Mahomes shouldn’t scare them too much. They need to get after Mahomes, get a takeaway or two, and keep the game in front of them.
  • Don’t let up
As they saw Sunday, no lead is safe against the Chiefs. The Titans need to get out to an early lead and keep it. If Henry does have continued success, they need to run time off the clock and score touchdowns.

The Titans are seven-point underdogs on the road.

Prediction

The Chiefs, much like the Patriots and Ravens before them, will have trouble stopping Derrick Henry. He will add a fourth straight 180-yard rushing game and find the end zone twice at Arrowhead.

The Titans will stick with the recipe of a heavy dose of Henry, as long as he continues to break off chunks of positive yards.

Ryan Tannehill will make key throws when needed, and he will finish the game with over 300 yards passing and a pair of touchdowns.

Defensively, the Titans will stick to a similar gameplan they used to stop Lamar Jackson, and they will witness similar results.

The Titans will pull out a double-digit victory, punching their ticket to the Super Bowl in Miami to take on either the San Francisco 49ers or the Green Bay Packers.

Final Score: Titans 34, Ravens 24
