Oklahoma Sooners football is right around the corner, so grab your popcorn and Coke (or Dr. Pepper), and settle in for a way too early prediction for the upcoming season. The Sooners lost the Big 12 title for the first time in seven seasons, so getting it back will be high on their list of items to accomplish. However, with all the new changes to the program and staff, it is certain to be an exciting time as the Brent Venables era begins. The Spring Game gave us a glimpse of what is to come, and fans could not be more excited.

Looking at the schedule, the first three games are non-conference games. They should be able to win all three, although Nebraska will be their first actual test. Despite Nebraska not being the powerhouse many remember from the 1980s, they are still a formidable foe for the Sooners, even now. The remaining nine games are all Big 12 matchups; some are a toss-up, and others are easily winnable, provided the Sooners decide to show up. So, here we go.

Be sure to keep up with all of our Oklahoma Sooners coverage.

UTEP at Oklahoma

Saturday, Sep 3, 2022
3:30 PM ET
Result: W

This game should be a no-brainer as to who will win. The last four times the Sooners have played against the University of Texas at El Paso, they have won. Their previous meeting was in 2017, and the Sooners won 56-7. UTEP doesn’t pose a significant threat to the season unless the Sooners play like they do not know a thing about football. Easy win for the Sooners.

Kent State at Oklahoma

Saturday, Sep 10, 2022
7:00 PM ET
Result: W

Oklahoma has never faced Kent State in football, so it will be interesting to see how the game turns out. However, the game should be easy for the Sooners despite Kent State working their way back to winning seasons. It might take a hot moment for Oklahoma to figure them out, but once they do, expect a victory celebration.

Oklahoma at Nebraska

Saturday, Sep 17, 2022
12:00 PM ET
Result: W

The Sooners’ first formidable foe comes in the form of the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Any longtime Sooners fan will no doubt remember all the battles between these two teams on the field. They have met 87 times, and Oklahoma is on the winning end of this matchup with a 46-38-3 record, and they have won four out of the five last games. Although Nebraska is not quite the team it used to be, the Sooners cannot afford to let their guard down.

Kansas State at Oklahoma

Saturday, Sep 24, 2022
12:00 PM ET
Result: W

In this battle, Oklahoma has the edge with an overall record of 76-21-4 against the Kansas State Wildcats. The Sooners have won three out of the last five games, so a victory is not easily assured. However, the Sooners should be on a roll by now and should be able to defeat the Wildcats once more. With this game being the first Big 12 matchup, the outcome will determine how the rest of the season will go.

Oklahoma at Texas Christian

Saturday, Oct 1, 2022
12:00 PM ET
Result: W

While Texas Christian might be a formidable opponent, the Sooners had won the last five games played against them and have an overall record of 17-5 against the Horned Frogs. Out of all the teams up to this point, TCU might be the team to hand the Sooners their first loss of the season. Will the Sooners be focused on this game, or will they be too concerned about the upcoming game against Texas? The answer to that might give us the winner of this matchup.

Texas vs. Oklahoma

Saturday, Oct 8, 2022
8:00 PM ET
Result: W

The game fans are waiting for. With both schools on a recruiting spree and set to improve steadily, this year’s Red River Rivalry will be the most interesting to watch. The game could go either way and though Texas does have the better record, the last five times the teams have met, the Sooners have won four of them. So it should be a great big horns down and win for the Sooners.

Kansas at Oklahoma

Saturday, Oct 15, 2022
8:00 PM ET
Result: W

Oklahoma must ensure they are still on their toes and ready to come out swinging. Hopefully, they will not relax after defeating the Longhorns because there is no need to lose to Kansas. The Sooners have won each of the last five meetings against them and have the winning record. The Sooners will also need to ensure they are not looking ahead to the upcoming bye week. Oklahoma will easily defeat the Jayhawks at home in Norman.

Oct. 20: BYE WEEK
Oklahoma at Iowa State

Saturday, Oct 29, 2022
8:00 PM ET
Result: W

Coming off a bye week will see the Sooners well rested. They are in the season’s endgame, and Iowa State will be a small-time game and easily winnable unless Oklahoma gets too relaxed on the bye week. Four out of the last five meetings have belonged to the Sooners, so it is safe to say they will win this game. With the talent Oklahoma has, the Cyclones are no match for them.

Baylor at Oklahoma

Saturday, Nov 5, 2022
12:00 PM ET
Result: L

Despite winning four out of the last five meetings, the Sooners should know better than to sleep on the Bears of Baylor. If the Sooners are not ready, Baylor will surprise them. It has happened before, and at some point in the future, it will again; Oklahoma needs to make sure not to let it be this season. However, it will be a close game, and the team that has the ball last will win. Baylor is looking to prove that being Big 12 champions is their future, and it will take a win against the Sooners to do it.

Oklahoma at West Virginia

Saturday, Nov 12, 2022
12:00 PM ET
Result: W

Last year, the Sooners struggled to beat West Virginia. However, this year will see the Mountaineers struggle. It will be a challenging road game, but the Sooners will overcome any obstacles West Virginia puts in their way. Both teams will fight the good fight, but Oklahoma has the edge and should come out with a win.

Oklahoma State at Oklahoma

Saturday, Nov 19, 2022
7:00 AM ET
Result: W

Bedlam. What more could be said? Fans better enjoy what they are seeing because it is unclear if Bedlam will still occur after the Sooners move to the SEC. While Oklahoma holds the winning record for this matchup, they will be looking to avenge their loss to the Cowboys last season. Oklahoma State will do what they do best when playing their in-state rival, but the Sooners should come out of this game with a victory.

Oklahoma at Texas Tech

Saturday, Nov 26, 2022
7:00 AM ET
Result: W

Texas Tech’s football program is trending in the right direction, up. Having said that, they will be no match for the Sooners, who will have one eye on the Big 12 Championship game. The Red Raiders will be looking for a fight and a chance to give the Sooners a loss. Oklahoma will need to focus; otherwise, they might lose a winnable game.

The Championship

More than likely, the Sooners will meet the Bears of Baylor in the Big 12 Championship game, giving them the opportunity to bring glory back to Norman. It’s been a long road since right before the Alamo Bowl, but the direction the Sooners are heading in makes fans believe that everything is going to be alright.

Players and fans have bought into Venables’ plan for the future of football at Oklahoma, and while it is certainly possible for them to win every game, there will be hiccups. However, those hiccups will lead to greater glory in the future. This is the beginning of a new era of Oklahoma football, be prepared for greatness.
