Oakland Raiders to Release Jordy Nelson

After only one season with the team, veteran wide receiver Jordy Nelson will be released by the Oakland Raiders. This news was first reported by NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

The Raiders have recently improved their receiving corps with plenty of star power, adding former Charger Tyrell Williams via free agency earlier today, and acquiring Antonio Brown in a trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers earlier this week. It seems that Jon Gruden is looking to spend well to add talent to his roster, especially when it means that there will be new targets for Derek Carr.

Nelson played for the Green Bay Packers for nine seasons before joining the Raiders, becoming one of Aaron Rodgers’ most reliable targets in his time with the team. Last season was an underwhelming one stats-wise for the 34-year-old veteran, especially considering the great stats he posted as a member of the Packers.

Last season, Nelson started 14 games for Oakland. In that time, he made 63 catches for 739 yards, scoring three touchdowns along the way. This is not terrible for a receiver nearing the end of his career, so it is likely that Nelson will find himself on the football field for his 12th NFL season come September.
