Happy weekend everyone, lots of high-profile games on this nine-game evening slate. The Leafs and Habs renew their rivalry in Montreal, the surging Blue Jackets visit the Flyers, Calgary and Winnipeg meet up for an outdoor game for the Heritage Classic, and finally, in perhaps the game of the night, the high-flying Nashville Predators visit last year’s President’s trophy winners, the Tampa Bay Lightning. Let’s dig into it and make some Ice Picks!
CORE MUST-HAVES ⭐
Mitch Marner TOR W $6,500
Marner is just as potent of a force offensively as teammate Austin Matthews and he will cost you $1,200 less. Both players are getting similar ice time totals, Matthews does give you an edge in shots on goal but Marner is no slouch given his 13 shots in the last five games. Marner has five assists in the last five while Matthews has two goals and two assists during the time frame. Toronto will look to pounce on Montreal’s poor penalty killing. They have surrendered four goals on the last eight opponent power-plays. For the season they rank 30th on the penalty kill at a 67.6% mark.
Nikita Kucherov TB W $6,900
Kucherov hasn’t been as dominant after nine games this season compared to last year where he led the league in scoring by 12 points. Take the reduction in price because it isn’t likely to last long. The Predators come into this one ranked 16th in defense, and are 27th in penalty killing situations.
Oskar Lindblom PHI W $5,200
If we date back to the end of last year, Lindblom has nine goals over his last 13 games. The Flyers will look to pounce on the Blue Jackets who rank 18th defensively. The Flyers are fourth in scoring chances and are owners of the sixth best power-play. The Jackets rank 20th in penalty killing.
VALUE PLAYS
Calle Jarnkrok NSH W $4,000
Nashville is getting scoring from multiple sources. A lot to like with Jarnkrok as he is filling in for the injured Filip Forsberg. He has three goals and an assist with 11 shots over his last five games. Jarnkrok is getting first line duties for both five-on-five and powerplay situations. The lightning rank 17th in defense while the Predators are the league’s best scoring club.
Tyson Barrie TOR D $4,300
Barrie has a very favorable salary compared to where he was at for the beginning of the season, granted he has struggled offensively with no points in his last five. But the points are likely to come as Barrie leads Leafs defensemen in shots on net over the last five games with 13. For the full season to date, he trails just superstar Morgan Reilly by one shot for the lead among Leafs D men. The Leafs enter this one as the league’s fourth best offense while Montreal ranks 22nd defensively.
Josh Anderson CLS W $3,600
Columbus, all of the sudden, are actually a good hockey club. They are ridding a six game point streak (4-0-2). Much like the Preds, they get scoring from multiple sources. Josh Anderson profiles as a great play, he missed six games due to injury and is still in search of his first points on the season. Anderson had a breakout type season last year with 27 snipes and is once again a featured player on the power-play, he will look to contribute against the Flyers 23rd ranked penalty kill.
