NFL Playoff Seeding Predictions

We are the halfway point of the NFL season, which means it’s time to make some of this year’s NFL Playoff Bracket! Although it is still quite early and there is still plenty of football left, we do have a basic feel for what each team is capable of. In other words, we have enough of an assessment to cast judgments on the future of the league based on the standings.

2020 NFL Playoffs

The 2020 NFL Playoffs will be formatted differently from the past. Here is a brief overview of the changes that have been made. In March, NFL owners approved new playoff formatting rules. In the past, the playoffs worked as follows:

  • Top two teams in each conference received a bye week. 12 total teams make the playoffs.
  • Wild Card — #3 seed host #6. #4 seed host #5.
  • Divisional Round — #1 seed hosts lowest remaining seed. #2 seed hosts highest remaining seed.
  • Conference Championship — winners of divisional round face each other with the highest seed hosting.
  • Super Bowl — Two conference champions face each other.
With the new NFL Playoff formatting, it will work as follows:
  • One team from each conference receives a bye week. One extra Wild Card spot. 14 total teams make the playoffs.
  • Wild Card — #2 seed host #7. #3 seed host #6. #4 seed host #5.
  • Divisional Round — #1 seed host winner of #4 versus #5. Winners of #2 versus #7 and #3 versus #6 face each other with the highest seed hosting.
  • Conference Championship — winners of divisional round face each other with the highest seed hosting.
  • Super Bowl — Two conference champions face each other.

Without further due, here are my predictions for what each conference will look like.

AFC Playoff Bracket

The current divisional leaders in the AFC are the Buffalo Bills, Tennessee Titans, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs are the reigning defending Super Bowl champs and will be looking to repeat this postseason. But, they will have quite the task as the Steelers appear to be the team to beat.

There are plenty of other teams in the AFC capable of making the playoffs such as the Baltimore Ravens, Miami Dolphins, Las Vegas Raiders, and Cleveland Browns. Here are my playoff predictions.

NFC Playoff Bracket

The current divisions’ leaders in the NFC are the Philadelphia Eagles, Green Bay Packers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Seattle Seahawks. The NFC is wide open and perhaps, the toughest division in the NFL, NFC West, might have all divisional teams make the playoffs. The San Francisco 49ers made the Super Bowl last year and are currently in last place in the NFC West.

Tom Brady has the Tampa Bay Buccaneers playing at a Super Bowl level and recently, they signed star wideout, Antonio Brown. There are many contenders in the NFC. Here are my playoff predictions.

1 Seed – Seattle Seahawks

2 Seed – Tampa Bay Buccaneers

3 Seed – Green Bay Packers

4 Seed – Philadelphia Eagles

5 Seed – Los Angeles Rams

6 Seed – New Orleans Saints

7 Seed – San Francisco 49ers

With that, this is what Wild Card weekend will look like.
