NFL Draft Recap: Picks 53-56

The NFL Draft is in full swing, and the second round is just about complete.

Picks 53 through 56 belong to the Philadelphia Eagles, Buffalo Bills, Baltimore Ravens, and the Miami Dolphins.

Here’s who’s got a new home in 2020.

Round 2, Pick 53 – Philadelphia Eagles: Jalen Hurts, Quarterback, Oklahoma

The Eagles, in shocking fashion, opt to select a quarterback with their second-round choice.

Maybe trying to light a fire under Carson Wentz, Hurts brings a versatile playstyle with him to the City of Brotherly Love–-as he blossomed as a Heisman candidate in his one year at Oklahoma.

In 14 games, Hurts completed 69.7 percent of his passes for 3,851 yards and 32 touchdowns for the Sooners, who snuck their way into the Playoff. He’s been a winner everywhere he’s been, claiming a National Championship as well during three years in Alabama.

Not too sure where he’ll slide in, but this certainly comes in second of the round’s “What the…?” selections behind Lenoir-Rhyne University’s Kyle Dugger, who went to New England at No. 37.

Round 2, Pick 54 – Buffalo Bills: A.J. Epenesa, EDGE, Iowa

Perhaps an early candidate for the steal of the draft, the Bills land edge rusher A.J. Epenesa out of Iowa.

Last year, the 6-foot-6, 280-pound edge rusher had 11.5 sacks, 32 tackles, and three passes defended.

Many mocks had him going in the back-half of the first round, so to see him fall this far is a bit shocking. However the Bills, already a defensive powerhouse, just got a bit stronger in their front seven.

Round 2, Pick 55 – Baltimore Ravens: J.K. Dobbins, Running Back, Ohio State

The Ravens sure do love their runners, don’t they?

A team that already posses Lamar Jackson at quarterback, as well as Gus Edwards and Mark Ingram in the backfield, Dobbins swoops in at running back No. 3 on the depth chart.

At Ohio State last season, Dobbins rushed for over 2,000 yards, adding another 247 through the air. Additionally, the Ohio State product netted 23 touchdowns and made highlight plays all over the place thanks to his small build and shifty athleticism.

When I look at J.K. Dobbins, I see a player similar to a Dion Lewis or a James White, even though he’s a much better runner than both of them.

Round 2, Pick 56 – Miami Dolphins: Raekwon Davis, Defensive Tackle, Alabama

Rounding out this segment of picks is Alabama Crimson Tide nose tackle, Raekwon Davis.

Last season, the 6-foot-7, 312-pound senior recorded three tackles for loss, 18 solos, and 29 assisted tackles.

Davis will slide in an immediately make an impact alongside the first-round pick of 2019’s Draft, Christian Wilkins, who had three tackles for loss and four quarterback hits in 14 starts for Miami last year.
