NFL DFS: Cash Game Core Plays for Week 14 (2021)

Time to get back on the horse. We’ve been riding it out all season, and somehow, we’ve already reached Week 14. Unreal. Every year the football season lasts about as long as it takes me to shower in the morning. Speaking of cleaning up, how about we wipe the DFS slate clean this week? The best way to do that is by starting lineups with a solid core of players to build around. Take a look at the players I’ll have in virtually 100 percent of my Cash Game lineups.

QB Taysom Hill ($5,600 DK, $7,700 FD)

Hill isn’t a top-end quarterback. Heck, some people don’t consider him an NFL-caliber quarterback at all. Nonetheless, Hill is a borderline top-end fantasy QB whenever he is under center. Look no further than last week’s game against the Dallas Cowboys for proof. The Saints lost 27-17. Hill threw four interceptions and completed only 46 percent of his passes. However, he rushed for over 100 yards and threw two touchdowns to achieve 27.7 DK points.

The New York Jets are not an overly difficult matchup, and the Saints are 5.5-point favorites. The Jets haven’t played many rushing quarterbacks. In the fewest rushing attempts by opposing quarterbacks category, they rank second to only the Baltimore Ravens. Fire up Hill as a cheap high-floor option with upside.

RB Antonio Gibson ($6,000 DK, $7,400 FD)

Gibby is a weapon in the passing game when the Washington Football Team chooses to use him that way. Unfortunately, J.D. McKissic carves out most of the receiving out of the backfield. However, a concussion could set up a potential smash spot for Gibson, who has seen an uptick in usage over the last few games. In the previous two games, he’s touched the ball 64 times with 26 carries per game and six catches per game.

“We will win this football game,” Dallas Cowboys’ head coach Mike McCarthy said. Jerry Jones even flew out Cowboys sideline benches to FedExField. There’s a little bit of a narrative here with the apparent motivation factor. But the Cowboys rank 19th in rush defense DVOA. Gibson gives the Football Team the best chance to win, so I’m hoping Ron Rivera uses him a ton today.

RB – Austin Ekeler ($8,300 DK, $9,200 FD)

Speaking of players out today, the Los Angeles Chargers will be without their top receiver, Keenan Allen. Ekeler already gets used a ton in the passing game out of the backfield. Over the last three games, he’s averaged 6.7 targets and 59.3 receiving yards. Behind Allen and Mike Williams, he’s the third-most targeted player on the Chargers.

The New York Giants have issues stopping the run. They sit second-worst in the NFL in rush defense DVOA. Not only could Ekeler get more targets than usual with a banged-up Mike Williams and inactive Allen, but he could also have a solid day rushing. Lock in the volume and upside.

WR – Mike Williams ($6,000 DK, $6,900 FD)

It’s looking like a great day to play two or more players from the same offense in Cash Games. The Chargers are that offense. With Allen out, not only is Ekeler a good play, but Williams becomes Justin Herbert’s top target. Initially, it was unknown whether Williams would play because he was in close contact with Allen (COVID-19) and was not vaccinated. However, the team activated Williams yesterday.

The New York Giants have yielded the fifth-most receptions to opposing wide receivers this season. With an average of 7.8 targets per game, I see no reason to get away from Williams here, especially given his cheap price tag across both of the main DFS sites.
