The NFL season has picked up steam. Most teams have had their bye weeks and are now focused on making the playoffs—and trying to beat any team that stands in their way.
Division Leaders
NFC East: Philadelphia Eagles
Record: 3-6-1
Next game: Nov. 30 vs. Seahawks
The division is a lot closer than it used to be. The Eagles are 3-6-1, good for a half-game lead, but now every team behind them is 3-7. Considering the Eagles play the Seahawks, a team that could contend for a championship, on Monday Night Football, expect the NFC East standings to become increasingly volatile over the coming weeks.
NFC North: Green Bay Packers
Record: 7-3
Next game: Nov. 29 vs. Bears
The Packers have started to run away with their division. The nearest team is the Chicago Bears, and a victory against them on Sunday would almost certainly seal the division. With that taken care of, all they need to do now is focus on winning games—and maybe boosting Aaron Rodgers‘s MVP case.
NFC South: New Orleans Saints
Record: 8-2
Next game: Nov. 29 at Broncos
Until Drew Brees comes back (when that will be is unclear), New Orleans has a pretty good backup plan in Taysom Hill. The 30-year-old weapon performed well last week in a 24-9 win over the Falcons. His play comes at a very fortunate time as the Saints try to nurse a small division lead over the 7-4 Buccaneers. While New Orleans should benefit from the fact that Tampa still has their bye week, it would be helpful if Brees came back sooner rather than later.
NFC West: Los Angeles Rams and Seattle Seahawks
Record: 7-3
Next games: Rams on Nov. 29 vs. 49ers and Seahawks on Nov. 30 at Eagles
In what is probably the closest division race in the NFL and certainly the NFC, two teams that could potentially challenge for a championship are neck and neck, with the Arizona Cardinals right behind at 6-4. Both of these teams will likely win their next matchups as the Rams play the 4-6 49ers and Seattle plays the 3-6-1 Eagles. Therefore, it does not look like either team will be running away with the division any time soon. Be on the lookout for a Week 16 game between the two that could decide the division.
In The Hunt
The entire NFC East
Record: 3-7
This division is sometimes hard to watch. All three of the Cowboys, Giants, and Football Team are sitting at 3-7. All three are teams with first-year head coaches who could instantly win a division title. Ultimately, one team has to win it, and with a half-game lead, it’s currently advantage Eagles. Don’t count out the rest of the division, though. The field is wide open in the NFC East.
